Much of their work centers around their Mourningtown project, a site-specific practice that resonates between memory, fiber craft, mixed-media assemblage, sustainable agriculture, and political protest. Through this endeavor, Spindler-Fox incants and summons the ghosts that haunt our memories, the spectres roaming through our history, and the spirits of the lost who we must remember. Their work challenges stable understandings of the hierarchies of human and non-human species, all while celebrating the queer oddity and scrappiness of scavenging that characterizes many strains of Appalachian art and craft.
